Saturday January 23, 2010 Day 54, Asia mile 532, Eurasia mile 3337 Fatsa, Turkey on Highway D10, the south Black Sea Coast
Dear Friends who pray! May the heavens open over Turkey and soak her with the rain of God's presence, as we are receiving rain in the natural over the walking route! I am reminded of the rain we received a few years ago in Florida when we oversaw a prayer walk of that entire state in a day. There had been a 3 year drought, but the evening after the state was prayer walked the weather channel reported a "strange weather anomaly" in the city. We had set up a large tent near Orlando, at the center of the state, and that night it poured over the tent, causing folks in the meeting to rejoice and dance through the puddles, while the city all around that area was dry. It was a prophetic rain that spoke of the presence of God that was to be poured out in that place, and in the same way may Turkey receive the spiritual answer to the rain that has been flooding our walking route for these past days! Amen! As we walk and pray we continually have the sense that Turkey is a land wide open to receive an outpouring of the cleansing presence of the Lord. In the natural, water is used in abundance here. The hot Turkish baths are legendary, every corner has a mosque with fountains of fresh water out front for ritual washing, and on every street, night and day, rain, snow or shine, men are continually sudsing and spraying cars, dump trucks, tractors, diggers and busses…I have never seen a whole culture so committed to cleansing everything! John the Baptist said, “I have baptized you in water, but after me comes One who will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” Would you join with us in praying that the Lord will raise up His apostles, prophets and evangelists for this land that Turkey might receive the water of His Holy Spirit in a mighty revival? Would you ask the Lord if YOU are meant to be involved in any way in this land? Turkey could be a key to the whole Middle East receiving ‘the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the 'waters' cover the sea’. What joy that would bring to the heart of God!! On a practical note, our week has gone well, thanks to the Lord. Many more invites to tea have come our way, we were given a free car wash, a gas station manager in Samsun jumped in the camper to personally direct us in finding a place to buy propane and we later spent quite a bit of time together talking about the walk. We have been warmly welcomed to park overnight wherever we have asked permission, and were even granted the free use of a hotel room shower two days ago. (Wondrously hot water actually comes out of a spout on the wall just over your head!) What a much appreciated blessing that was! I also had some great enjoyment in sensing the presence of the Lord as I visited with a group of ladies on their coffee break as we were parked by a hazel nut processing plant just outside of Terme. My Turkish is a sparse commodity, but with laughter and much love in my heart I trust the Holy Spirit to communicate His message to every soul that we meet and to bring His fruit into their lives. Amen! The roads continue to be in great repair, although with all of the rain John has been trudging along some very muddy shoulders. The cities have been mercifully easy to navigate through, John’s legs are holding up well and we are enjoying this small strip of flat highway wedged between the Black Sea Coast on our left and the Giresun Dagi Mountains on our right. This area produces hazel nuts, rice and tea for export and we have even seen some palm trees, although how they survive such a chilly winter without long underwear I have no idea!
We thank you for those prayers for Turkey and also for us as we walk and pray across her vast terrain. Separated from family, we daily battle loneliness and travel fatigue while the short winter days and wet weather aren't always the most heartening to walk through. Please also pray that we will receive every provision needed to complete this walk and we heartily thank those of you who have contributed to us in finance and encouragement! We can feel the effects of your prayers and your love and are so grateful to you all. Take a look at this week's pictures on our web site's photo gallery! Just taking a little walk with Jesus! John and Sandy PS....John and I have been reading "There is Always Enough" the story of Rolland and Heidi Baker's ministry among the poor of Africa. We have been blessed and challenged as we read that it is time to shake off the comforts of home and to take the Gospel to the world. The Lord is getting ready to give the 'Marriage supper of the Lamb' and the table needs to be filled, while thousands who don't know their Savior are desperately hungering for an invitation. It's time for us to GO and invite them to come in! We invite you to read their book asking God what He would have you do as a worker in His harvest field!
