Hello Campers!

It is about 37 degrees F and has been raining for the past several days as John has pushed steadily uphill, crossing the Pontic mountains and heading north to Samsun. During his last ‘hot drink’ break in the camper, he felt damp through most of his clothing layers, had worn a new 'hot spot' on his foot, was reminded of how vulnerable our humanity really is but was determined to muscle through to day’s end.  We are nearing the southern Black Sea coast, which is probably responsible for the cold, wet welcome we are receiving weather wise, but the welcome in the hearts of the local folks continues to be as warm as ever.

After dark last evening as John finally arrived at the camper in the miserably cold rain, he was greeted by a road construction worker who invited us into his warm office for hot tea, cookies and a great chat. Using the Turkish dictionary that I rescued from a ditch along the way, mixed with lots of hilarious charades, we were able to communicate the essence of what we are doing, and answer most of the very good questions that were put to us. Questions such as: “How old are you?” “Why are you doing this walk?” “How long is it going to take?” “Are you crazy?” all make for great conversation.

(I'm sure that you all have an opinion on the answer to that last question, just as I do! Actually, we come very highly acclaimed.... A fellow that we met recently told John, "Wow! You look far more normal than you really are!" To which everyone said "Amen!")

Folks are very interested in the American family as well, and really enjoy seeing photos that show the love between our family members. Most Turks seem to believe that the nuclear family has disintegrated in the west, as Hollywood has taught them, and so I make a point of showing off my photos whenever I can. It seems to help establish a bond of friendship between us and after such a chat I often say goodbye and speak a simple Turkish blessing to them with tears in my eyes. May the Lord pour out His Holy Spirit on this whole nation of such very wonderful people! We are really growing to love these folks and want to see the fullness of the blessing of God upon this land. Amen!

Not getting the news in English very often, we have just heard about the devastating earthquake in Haiti, a land that John has ministered in several times. As we have been praying for our friends there, I was reminded of a prophetic sense that John had back on December 16, of the huge hand of the Lord coming down as a fist upon a table. John said to me at the time that he believed that there were going to be “global earthquakes”, that “God can move nations with the flick of His finger”, and that “mountains will be leveled as will happen at the return of the Lord”.

I have learned to pay attention when John has a spiritual sense such as this, as it is often a “heads up” from the Lord that something may be on the horizon that will need our prayers.

Please join us in prayer for the folks of Haiti, and for every nation that has yet to bow the knee to the Lordship of Christ. We are certainly closer now than ever before to the “end of this age” and there are yet so many that do not know the love of their Savior. As the Lord moves His mighty hand to get the attention of the nations of this world, may we move with Him bringing the word of His love.

I pray that the Lord gives us all revelation and empowerment, sending us out to do just that! Amen!

We love you all, and really appreciate your letters and encouragement of us. It’s so good to know that none of us are in this thing alone! We need and we have each other.

Ever onward in Jesus!

John and Sandy

P.S. John has been doing a great job of keeping the photos updated on our Turkey photo album on this site. Please feel free to check them out!
